This week in gaming: Blizzard announces Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV, Ubisoft is working on two unannounced next-gen games, Death Stranding is coming to PC next year, and more!

Blizzard announces Overwatch 2 and DIablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019:

President J. Allen Brack kicked off BlizzCon 2019 with an apology for how his company reacted to professional Hearthstone player Chung “blitzhung” Ng Wai’s pro-Hong Kong protesting at a recent tournament.

“Blizzard had an opportunity to bring the world together… We moved too quickly in our decision, and then, to make matters worse, we were too slow to talk with all of you,” he said. “When I think about what I’m most unhappy about, it’s really two things: We didn’t live up to the high standards we set for ourselves and, second, we failed in our purpose.”

In happier news, the company also announced Overwatch 2, which will add new heroes and maps in addition to a campaign and hero levelling system.


Blizzard also announced a numbered sequel to its long-running Diablo action RPG series in Diablo IV, both satiating and aggravating fans by giving them a full new campaign but also requiring them to play it online at all times.


In addition to this, Blizzard also announced a new World of Warcraft expansion named Shadowlands that will take place in the titular “realm of the departed” when it launches next year.


Ubisoft reveals that it’s working on five games for next-gen systems:

Speaking with investors following a recent earnings call (via Game Informer), Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that

Gods and Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Watch Dogs Legion will all be released on both current and next generation consoles. He then added that his company is working on another two unannounced titles that will also be released across generations.

Death Stranding is coming to PC next year:

Developer Kojima Productions has announced that it is, in fact, working on a PC version of Death Stranding and the port is slated for an “early summer” – i.e. June/July – release next year.

The Epic Games Store’s going to get wish lists and Open Critic integration:

In its October development update, Epic Games revealed that it is now working on bringing wish lists to the Epic Games Store in addition to showing reviews from publications that are part of OpenCritic. In addition to this, the company also told EGS users to expect to see an “updated” grid view of their games library.

Bethesda follows ACCC’s instruction to offer refunds to Australian Fallout 76 players:

Less than a week after Bethesda Softworks launched a buggy subscription service for Fallout 76, the publisher’s parent company ZeniMax has agreed to offer refunds to Australian players as part of an agreement with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. In a statement to the public, the ACCC wrote that the refunds are being issued after ZeniMax “acknowledged” that it is “likely to have misled Australian consumers about their rights to a refund” when they complained about the game’s launch bugs and glitches.

Australian players who contacted ZeniMax “between 24 November 2018 and 1 June 2019” will be given a refund if they haven’t received one already and will lose access to the game in return.

Netflix has finally released a full-length trailer for its hotly-anticipated live-action adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher book series and announced a December 20 premiere date in the process.
