Wii games are now available in the Wii U eShop

Nintendo of America has announced that Wii U owners are now able to download Wii games from the Wii U eShop.

“Starting today, download Wii games directly to your Wii U via the eShop” the company tweeted. “Super Mario Galaxy 2 is first up!”

It also announced that buyers will be able to “save up to 50% on select games”, including throwback Wii titles such as Metroid Prime: Trilogy, Punch Out!! and Super Mario Galaxy 2; each of which are set to become available this month for US$19.99.

Although the Wii U has a built in Wii emulation mode, the new re-released Wii games will run as proper Wii U software that can be played entirely on the Wii U gamepad provided that they originally supported the Wii Classic Controller.
