Some PS3-based GTA Online players will have to upgrade their system to continue playing

Grand Theft Auto V developer Rockstar Games has taken to its official support website to deliver the disturbing news that players using a 12GB PlayStation 3 will be required to upgrade their system in order to continue playing Grand Theft Auto Online.

“As the world of Grand Theft Auto Online continues to expand and evolve through ongoing updates, storage limitations of the PlayStation 3 12GB hardware will require owners to purchase additional storage to accommodate GTAV title updates after 1.16,” the company revealed. “All updates and content must remain installed on the system in order to maintain compatibility for all players within GTA Online.”

“If not enough space is available on the system, hardware limitations will prevent players from accessing GTA Online. GTAV Story Mode will still be accessible by playing the game without being connected to PlayStation®Network, and proceeding without additional updates.”

With that being said, it’s not necessarily time to buy a whole new console; fortunately enough, it’s remarkably easy to change the hard drive in the super-slim PlayStation 3 model even though it’s not all that easy to find at first. For more information on how to do that, you can check out Sony’s official instructions by clicking here.
