NVIDIA delays SHIELD due to “mechanical issues”

GPU manufacturer NVIDIA has delayed the first shipments of its SHIELD Android based game system after encountering “mechanical issues” during production.

NVIDIA clarified that the component causing the issue was sourced from a third party manufacturer, and that the launch has been delayed until July from its planned release later this week.

NVIDIA SHIELD was originally unveiled as Project SHIELD, and is a portable Android games system powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 mobile graphics chip. PC players will be able to stream select Steam titles onto the handheld via the h.264 encoders built into Kepler (GTX 600 series and up) based graphics cards.
