It’s been a long time coming, but the upcoming action-adventure Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for the WiiU will be the first game to be released in Australia with the R18+ rating, which came into effect on the first day of 2013.
The game, an enhanced port of last year’s Ninja Gaiden 3 which sees players take control of a cursed ninja fighting against a terrorist organisation, received the R18+ rating for “high impact bloody violence”. The Director of Australia’s Classification Board, Lesley O’Brien, noted that “Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge contains violence that is high in impact because of its frequency, high definition graphics, and emphasis on blood effects.”
A release date for the game has not yet been announced, but Australian gamers who have followed the battle for the R18+ rating – which will see numerous games that were banned for sale around the country made available – will see this as a giant step; I know I do. If you’d like to know more about the R18+ rating itself, Gamespot did an excellent feature on it last week.
